Day 30: Letter C May 18, 2010

Well, had I realized this was the 30 day mark, I might have tried to do something uber special, but I didn’t, so I didn’t. Got it? But the Letter C is kind of special. Without it, we couldn’t spell Cookie! And what kind of world would THAT be?

Today’s activity was a craft and a play thing all in one! Using the line “C is for Car”, we made a fun road for Zach to play with his cars.

Supplies:

Black construction paper, white copy paper, scissors, glue stick, yellow crayon, cars, 2-year-old sneaking in to steal a "supply" or two.

Basically the idea was to create a road, made of the letter C, then let Zach push his cars around on it.

So, I cut a letter C out of construction paper.

Black C

Then Zach helped me glue it to the paper. This was apparently so easy he could do it while drinking from his sippy cup, one-handed.

Gluing the C to the paper

Patting the C down to make sure its stuck on there REAL good

Once the C was glued to the paper, I took the yellow crayon and drew marks to make it look like a road.

A white crayon would also work, and may show up better, but you do get the idea

Then I wrote “C is for Car” at the bottom, drew a little green car (to the best of my ability, which isn’t that great!) and then let Zach color it. If we’d had some car stickers, I’d probably have put those on too.

Coloring his picture

All done!

After that I had Zach drive his cars on his C road. Of course, first we had to load the cars on w/ dump trucks (obviously!).

Loading up the cars & driving around

He had fun pushing his cars around on this letter project. And he definitely remembered that C was for Car and can already point out the C on the fridge today.

What did Zach learn? All about the letter C.

What did Mommy learn? I think I need to take an art class, my car is terrible! And that getting his cars involved is a sure-fire way to get him to pay attention.
